The Science Behind This Test
This assessment is based on the Values in Action (VIA) Classification of Character Strengths, developed by Martin Seligman and Christopher Peterson as part of the positive psychology movement. Their 3-year project involved 55 scientists and identified 24 universal character strengths across 6 virtue categories.
The VIA framework has been extensively validated across cultures. A study of over 1 million people from 75 nations found remarkable consistency in which strengths are most valued, though cultural differences exist in specific rankings.
Research published in the Journal of Positive Psychology demonstrates that using signature strengths in new ways for just one week leads to increased happiness and decreased depression for up to six months. Strengths-based interventions have become a cornerstone of evidence-based positive psychology.
Gallup's research on strengths in the workplace finds that people who use their strengths every day are six times more likely to be engaged at work and significantly more productive. Organizations worldwide now use strengths-based development approaches.
